Function

function

Non-selective voltage-gated ion channel that mediates the transport of anions and cations through the mitochondrion outer membrane and plasma membrane. Forms a high-conducting channel with a stable open state and a voltage-induced closure with a mild preference for anions over cations (By similarity).
Involved in male fertility and sperm mitochondrial sheath formation (By similarity).

Expression

Tissue specificity

Isoform 1 is widely expressed with strong expression in atrium and ascitic tumor, lower levels in brain and very low levels in liver and kidney (PubMed:10998068).
Isoform 2 is also widely expressed with highest levels in brain but no expression in kidney (PubMed:10998068).
Also expressed in flagella of epididymal sperm (PubMed:19423663).

Interaction

Subunit

Interacts with ARMC12 in a TBC1D21-dependent manner. Interacts with MISFA.
