SR+89, a gene encoding a serine/arginine-rich protein, is widely transcribed from human chromosome 16p13.3 proximal to the alpha-globin cluster. Exclusion of this new gene as a candidate gene for the hypospadic phenotype associated with homozygous SEA-alpha-thalassaemia.
