Function

function

Virulence factor that interferes with host Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) signaling, resulting in the reduction of dendritic cell maturation, inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion and impaired NF-kappa-B activation in macrophages (PubMed:18266466).
Also acts on host TLR4. Binds host lipids. Has NAD+ hydrolase (NADase) activity, catalyzes cleavage of NAD+ into ADP-D-ribose (ADPR) and nicotinamide, also generates a cyclization variant of cyclic ADPR (cADPR), termed v-cADPR (probably 2'cADPR) (By similarity).

Phenotypes & Variants

Disruption phenotype

Grows as well as wild-type in mouse C57BL/6 dendritic cells, decreased activation of mouse dendritic cells compared to wild-type bacteria. Increased host expression and secretion of TNF-alpha and to a lesser extent IL-12 compared to wild-type bacteria.
