X-RAY CRYSTALLOGRAPHY (3.27 ANGSTROMS) OF 781-1030 IN COMPLEX WITH CA(2+), GLYCOSYLATION AT ASN-809; ASN-878; ASN-922 AND ASN-990, SUBUNIT (ENVELOPE GLYCOPROTEIN E2), FUNCTION (ENVELOPE GLYCOPROTEIN E2), DISULFIDE BONDS (ENVELOPE GLYCOPROTEIN E2)
Bovine viral diarrhea virus 1 infection of monocyte-derived dendritic cells was prevented by incubating the virus with anti-viral E2 antibodies or by pretreating the cells with recombinant E2 protein before virus contact suggesting that the virus infects monocyte-derived dendritic cells through an E2-mediated mechanism.
These findings reveal the existence of an alternative -1/+2 ORF in the N(pro)(1-19) region during the replication of bovine viral diarrhea virus and open a new avenue to understand the life cycle and pathogenesis of pestiviruses.
These data suggest that the NS3/4A protein is responsible for regulating the levels of cellular apoptosis and provide new insights regarding the viral elements associated with cytopathogenic biotype pathogenesis.
These experiments showed that a Y1338H substitution at residue 193 of NS2 resulted in the temperaturedependent attenuation of cytopathogenicity despite high levels of infectious virus production.
