Function
function
Component of NURF (nucleosome remodeling factor), a complex which catalyzes ATP-dependent nucleosome sliding and facilitates transcription of chromatin (PubMed:9784495).
NURF is required for homeotic gene expression, proper larval blood cell development, normal male X chromosome morphology, ecdysteroid signaling and metamorphosis (PubMed:8521501, PubMed:9784495).
Inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase), hydrolyzes inorganic pyrophosphate to inorganic phosphate, essential for driving critical biosynthetic reactions including transcription, replication, and DNA repair (PubMed:9784495).

Miscellaneous
The ATPase activity of NURF is stimulated by the presence of nucleosomes rather than by free DNA.
Catalytic activity
- diphosphate + H2O = H+ + 2 phosphateThis reaction proceeds in the forward direction.
