Component of the monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (MIAs, e.g. echitovenine, tabersonine, lochnericine, 19-hydroxytabersonine and horhammericine) biosynthetic pathway; MIAs are used in cancer treatment and other medical applications (PubMed:31009114).
