Function

function

Receptor for Wnt proteins (By similarity).
Following binding, activates the canonical Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway (By similarity).
Also activates wnt non-canonical signaling (PubMed:15996547).
In neurons, activation of the Wnt pathway promotes formation of synapses (By similarity).
May be involved in transduction and intercellular transmission of polarity information during tissue morphogenesis and/or in differentiated tissues (Probable). Plays a role in early eye development, possibly through wnt non-canonical signaling (PubMed:15996547).
As a receptor for wnt11, promotes eye formation, at least partially, by antagonizing the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway (PubMed:15996547).
In addition, promotes coherence of eye field cells, potentially contributing to the coordinated morphogenetic behaviors of cells in the nascent eye field (PubMed:15996547).

Phenotypes & Variants

Disruption phenotype

During gastrulation, morphants display a reduction in the eye field within the anterior neural plate (ANP), while other ANP regions are essentially normal (PubMed:15996547).
Later on, at 3 dpf, they exhibit coloboma and microphthalmia phenotypes (PubMed:26908622).

Developmental stage

During late gastrulation stages, exclusively expressed in the eye field within the anterior neural plate (PubMed:15996547).
Expressed in the developing liver, at least from 72 hpf to 5 dpf (PubMed:29266316).
