Function

function

An anti-sigma factor for extracytoplasmic function (ECF) sigma factor SigE. ECF sigma factors are held in an inactive form by an anti-sigma factor (By similarity).

Cofactor

Zn2+ (UniProtKB | Rhea| CHEBI:29105 )

Note: Binds 1 Zn2+ ion per subunit.

TypeIDPosition(s)Description

Modified residue36Phosphothreonine; by PknB

Post-translational modification

Phosphorylated by PknB on Thr-36; can be dephosphorylated (at least in vitro) by PstP. Phosphorylation is the signal for subsequent degradation by the ClpC1-ClpP2 complex (By similarity).
Degraded following vancomycin treatment (surface stress) by a ClpC1-ClpP2 complex.

Expression

Induction

Total levels of RseA decrease after detergent or vancomycin treatment of whole cells (at protein level).

Interaction

Subunit

Interacts with ECF RNA polymerase sigma factor SigE, interaction is abrogated by treatment of cells with H2O2, detergent or vancomycin (the latter 2 cause surface stress). This probably inhibits the interaction of SigE with the RNA polymerase catalytic core.
