Keywords - Pore-mediated penetration of viral genome into host cell (KW-1172)
- DefinitionVirion-associated pore-forming protein that induces the formation of a transmembrane pore or channel in the host membrane(s) to allow the viral genome to enter the host cytoplasm. This mechanism is used by non-enveloped viruses such as human rhinovirus 2 or poliovirus. Many tailed bacteriophages carry specialized proteins which open a pore or a channel in the host membrane(s) to allow penetration of the virion tail into host envelope and genome delivery into host cytoplasm.
